The client.

The Childnet Digital Leaders Programme is a youth leadership training programme empowering young people to educate their peers about online safety. The programme is aimed at primary and secondary schools.

The challenge.

Build a virtual learning environment to educate children about online safety. The platform will feature lessons, leaderboards, and gamification. Build a public website that explains the programme.

The strategy.

Execute stakeholder interviews. Conduct site user behaviour, keyword and traffic research. Build user personas. Launch a new website ensuring the design appeals to both adults and children alike.

What we did.

Stakeholder research

It was essential to create a platform that appealed to both adults and children. We conducted interviews with various stakeholders and conducted desk research which included examining the existing site’s user behaviour, search queries, keywords and traffic to better understand exactly what they required.

User personas

We built up a series of student personas that, along with our research, informed our strategy. The platform was to be launched to both primary and secondary schools, each with unique requirements regarding the type of lessons they would learn, as well as how they would access and consume the information.

Engaging activites

We built a virtual learning environment with lessons, leaderboards, and gamification designed specifically for different age groups. This bespoke approach ensured that all students could access activities that kept them engaged, optimising the value of being involved in the programme.

Website design

As well as creating the learning environment itself, a new website was also required to explain the programme. We created a design that was engaging and appealing for the variety of users it’s aimed towards. We implemented a logical information architecture, organising the content by user type with sections designed for teachers, parents, and young people.
