In 2016 Ravensbourne rebranded and when it came time to select a web design agency to update the website there was only one choice – Contra. Three years earlier we had produced the award nominated Ravensbourne site, loved by students and industry alike, so it made total sense that we should update the site to reflect the new branding.
The new branding was excellent – award winning and creative. This gave us a powerful creative base to work with. Ravensbourne wanted something that challenged how creative and beautify a university site could be and that is what we gave them. Big bold colours, playful ways of using the branding and a rich user experience all combine to create a stunning site. But, it isn’t all just looks. The site is extremely usable with quick access to information rich course pages, sections for industry partnerships, blogs, news, events and a fully featured jobs board and talent finder.
We conducted consultation with students and staff, including surveys and face to face interviews. This helped us identify user needs and allowed us reorganise the site structure. Then we put our creative hats on and came up with a design that reflected the new brand. The site is powered by Umbraco and we were able to make it very easy for staff to update pages.
Overall, the site is cleaner, easier to use and easier to manage. It reflects the new brand and positions Ravensbourne at the forefront of innovation.
